Our Proposal Story

Getting engaged in Africa was never something I would have expected to happen to me. But when my little sister moved to South Africa this past year, my wonderful fiancé Brian and I decided to plan a trip to see her. Little did I know that it would be a trip that changed my life forever!

The whole adventure started at the airport when Brian was chosen for a random search and his hands were swabbed for explosives. Oddly, he tested positive and was pulled out of line to be fully searched with all of his belongings... including his luggage where he had the engagement ring hiding! Thankfully, he and my mom had earlier devised a plan to hide the ring in a dental floss container, placing the ring over a spool of floss instead of in a ring box. I later realized how stressful the search was for him — he was nervous the surprise would be ruined!

Our time in South Africa was the experience of a lifetime. We spent our days wandering through markets, trying amazing food, meeting new people, and spending time with my sister. Brian had planned so many exciting adventures for me, including a safari where I got to hold monkeys (a childhood dream come true!).

On a particularly beautiful day, Brian and I decided to go to the top of Table Mountain, one of the new 7 World Wonders of Nature. We sat together on a large bolder, overlooking the beautiful city and ocean below. Brian fumbled around in his pocket, pulling out the small dental floss box. He looked at me and began to ask me about planning our next crazy adventure together as he popped open the box and revealed the stunning ring. Obviously I said yes, as the tears quickly began streaming down my face. Thankfully my sister was there to witness it, so we were able to celebrate this beautiful life moment together and have her capture it on film!

Registry

We went out and registered for a bunch of awesome things. Shopping for stuff! Playing with kitchen goodies! Bar code scanners! Feeling silky smooth sheets! It was a ton of fun.

Everything we put on the registries are things we'll love and would spruce up the house quite a bit, but honestly, the most important gift is having you and your dancing shoes at our celebration. We are pumped to spend our special day with you and feel very blessed to have you in our lives!
